It’s 4/20. Where’s Your STASH?

I
STASH by David Klein

Each year on 4/20, I give thanks to 420 Magazine for its generous review of my debut novel, Stash, which opens with a scene about a respected stay-at-home mom getting arrested for weed possession following a car accident.

April 20 is weed day. Legend has it that the day got its name in the 1970s in California when a group of high school students met after school around 4:20 to get high and 4/20 became a code phrase they could use in front of their parents. Clever stoner types, these high school kids. Who says weed kills brain cells! The reputation of 4/20 spread from there.

420 Magazine, founded in 1993, has a mission to create cannabis awareness. I hadn’t heard of the magazine until its editor contacted me to say he wanted to review my novel. I don’t know how he came to acquire a copy of Stash, but I do understand why the editor wrote a review: he knows what his audience likes.

The review, by Doc Bud (yup, can’t make that up), was overwhelmingly positive, as I’m sure Doc’s frame of mind was when he read the novel and wrote the review.

Here’s an excerpt from the review:

The reader knows these people. These characters are exactly like people we all know in our own lives, and because of that this book really hits on an emotional level. I couldn’t stop reading until things “resolved” because Klein writes in such a way as to fully draw the reader in.

Perhaps this is because he researched every aspect of the book, from what it’s like to work in a bar, to how pharmaceutical companies market prescription drugs, to how politics and police work alongside the justice system in America. Because of this, the book is entirely believable.
